The bow

 

The bow is in esotericism a force symbol.  Even the Cupido of Tarotcard 6 uses a light-bow für his higher purposes. In many cases is the bow a symbol for mantric forces up to the shabda.

== Hinduism ==

 

The Aghori-Version of Shiva has a terrible face and eight hands, which hold a śula (spear), a ḍamaru (drum), eine pāśa (sling), eine kapāla (skull cup), a daṇḍa (rod), a cāpa(bow), a bāṇa (arrow) and a asi (sword).

The bow (Kodandam) is Rama's main wapon. In the Mahabharata can only Rama break Shivas bow.

Indras bow is the rainbow - which symbolizes the colors of the Atman.

Kama shoots five arrows with his bow, which are called the five types of annoyances.

Mahabharata

 

The bow Vinata is mentioned several times in the 'Mahabharata of Krishna-Dwaipayana Vyasa' as in Volume 1, Books 1, 2 and 3: The bow of Vishnu  is called Pinaka as that of Shiva.

Arjuna becomes an excellent archer and gets the magic bow Gandhiva from Agni.

According to the Mahabharata 6:59 Bhishma spreads his arrows with flaming spikes with his incessantly arched bow which resembled venomous snakes. With these arrows that flew in uninterrupted lines in all directions, this glorious hero could beat the Pandava car-warriors .... What they all saw were only the countless arrows shot down from his bow.

In Sri Vidya the Mantrini - Devi, who rides as  a minister in the geya-chakra, wears a bow and an arrow as a weapon.

Upanishads

 

The Mundaka Upanishad recommends that a seeker of truth should take the mantra Aum or Pranava as a bow. The self, purified by Upasana ('sitting in immediate vicinity': worship, service), is the arrow, the ultimate reality or Brahman is the goal.

In the Krishna Upanishad, a bow called Saranga is the illusion of the god Krishna.

The Dhyanabindu Upanishad teaches: Om is the bow, the arrow is the soul, the Brahman is the arrow's target. You should always hit it.

'His natural being transformed and illumined remains to be the instrument of a universal and impersonal action, the bow of the divine archer.' (Sri Aurobindo, Essays on the Gita pg. 507)

Yoga: And last but not least: The Dhanur-asana (bow) stretches the spine, relaxes shoulders and strengthens both arms and thighs.

== Buddhism ==

 

The bow is a weapon of the godess Tara. Hala Hala Lokeshvara holds a bow in his left hands.

== Greek ==

 

The bow is a weapon of Diana and Apollo. Apollo is said to have used a curved bow, while Artemis used the silver bow. Heracles kills the Nemean lion with his bow. Centaur Chiron's main wapon is the bow.
